General Knowledge about Shuttlecock

1. Does WHITE color feather shuttlecock means 'new stock' and YELLOW color feather shuttlecock means 'old stock'?

Duck feathers is whiter then Goose feathers. The Goose feather is a little yellowish color. Reasons you see very White Goose feather shuttlecock in the market, that is because the manufacturer has decolourized (bleach) the feather into white so it seems like a new stock, and this will decrease the durability of the shuttlecock.

2. How many feathers in a shuttlecock?

A Shuttlecock shall have 16 feathers fixed in a cork base covered in kid leather.

3. Which is the best feather quality, duck or goose?

Best Badminton Shuttlecocks are made from feathers from the left wing of a goose. It is hard to say that duck feathers is the lowest as there is a certain grade of duck feathers which is better than goose feather like CIGU duck feather. The top grade duck feather which comparable to Grade One goose feather.

4. Which Shuttlecock speed I should choose?

The shuttle travels is also affected by the weather, altitude and temperature of your area. When it's hot, the shuttle will tend to fly faster. When it's cold, the shuttle will fly slower. If you are playing in an air-conditioned hall, use a slightly faster shuttle. If you're playing at high altitude, use a slower speed shuttle.
